WEEK 1 – NOV 18 – EARLY JOBIM (1927-1950)   REGISTER

We open by setting the stage for Jobim’s early career: his upbringing in Rio de Janeiro, his early mentors and influences, first jobs, and earliest musical memories.

WEEK 2 – DEC 2 – JOBIM AND BOSSA NOVA (1951-1970)   REGISTER

The emergence of bossa nova and Jobim’s integral role in it gets discussed today, from early successes in Brazil, to the iconic Getz-Gilberto record, to Carnegie Hall success, to an iconic collaboration with Frank Sinatra!

WEEK 3 – DEC 9 – CONTINUED POPULARITY AND LATER LIFE (1971-1994)   REGISTER

Jobim’s later career saw tremendous artistic shifts, as heard with his ensemble The New Band, and on albums like Jobim and Passarim. We’ll explore his later career and his final years.

WEEK 4 – DEC 16 – JOBIM’S PASSING AND LEGACY   REGISTER

While Jobim passed in 1994, his legacy continues to this very day. We’ll close out our celebration of Jobim with an exploration of his music’s continued life, even three decades after his passing.
