The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts is pleased to announce a very special evening of magic and history starring world-renowned magician and writer Joshua Jay. In this first part of the jam-packed event, Jay will perform a magic show featuring dazzling slight-of-hand and mind-reading. Then Herb Scher of the Society of American Magicians will interview Joshua Jay about his new book, How Magicians Think. They will cover magic's hidden psychology, the creative pumps magicians use to design illusions, expert-but-little-known female magicians, as well as the rich history of magic and the impressive holdings that the NYPL contains on the subject of magic. A Q&A will close out the event, and then all guests are welcome to enjoy a bespoke display case exhibition boasting highlights from the NYPL collection. You'll see fantastic pieces associated with Houdini, Adelaide Herrmann, and many of magic's greatest practitioners.
