Traffic Alerts

Alternate Side Parking Suspensions: Over the next three weeks, alternate side parking regulations will be suspended for the following holidays: Saturday, November 1 for All Saints' Day; Tuesday, November 4 for Election Day; and Tuesday, November 11 for Veterans Day. E-Bike Speed Limit: A 15 mile-per-hour speed limit for electric bikes, e-scooters, and pedal-assist commercial bicycles on city streets goes into effect on Friday, October 24. The speed limit for stand-up e-scooters is already 15 mph. In Central Park, the speed limit for e-bikes and e-scooters is also 15 mph.

Street Closure: The NYC Department of Transportation has posted an advisory here that West 67th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West will be closed to vehicles on Saturday, October 25, and Sunday, October 26, from 8:00am to 8:00pm to facilitate crane operation.

Open Streets and Street Fairs: On Sunday, October 26, from 12:00pm to 7:00pm, West 77th Street to West 68th Street along Columbus Avenue will be closed to traffic for Open Streets, hosted by the Columbus Avenue Business Improvement District. Voting Information

To vote in the upcoming mayoral election, New York City residents must be registered to vote by Saturday, October 25. New Yorkers who are not already registered can click here to register to vote online or for instructions on how to submit your registration by mail or in person.

To find your polling site to cast your vote, enter your home address here. The early voting period is Saturday, October 25 to Sunday, November 2. Election Day is Tuesday, November 4, with polls open from 6:00am to 9:00pm.

There are six proposals that will appear on the ballot. Information about the ballot proposals is available at the following links from the NYC Campaign Finance Board and NYC Board of Elections.  

Participatory Budgeting

Participatory Budgeting is a process in which community members decide how to spend part of the capital budget allocated to their city council member. People living in District 6, which covers Lincoln Square, can suggest ideas for projects to improve the neighborhood online by Friday, November 28, or at Council Member Gale Brewer’s District Office (563 Columbus Avenue) from 10:00am to 6:00pm on weekdays.

Fire Safety

The NYC Fire Department recently celebrated the 100th annual Fire Prevention Week by promoting fire and life safety education. Visit FDNY Smart for information on smoke/carbon monoxide alarms, Halloween safety, lithium-ion batteries, and more.

Tech Training

On Monday, October 27, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Lincoln Center’s David Rubenstein Atrium (1887 Broadway between West 62nd and 63rd Street), trainers from Older Adult Technology Services and Senior Planet/AARP, volunteers from DOROT, and staff from NYPL’s TechConnect will provide one-on-one answers to questions about smartphones, laptops, and email software. Pet Adoption

On Saturday, November 1, Animal Care Centers of NYC is holding a mobile pet adoption event from 12:00pm to 4:00pm at 563 Columbus Avenue at West 87th Street. All dogs and cats will already be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, so they will be ready to be licensed and taken home. 

MTA Info

The MTA’s Fall 2025 Customers Count Survey is available to take online here through Sunday, November 2. The survey, which takes an average of 10-15 minutes to complete, is intended to help identify priority issues for riders and give the MTA a better understanding of customer needs to make improvements across the system.

The MTA announced that it is planning to open a Customer Service Center at the 59 St-Columbus Circle subway station by the end of the year. Station agents working at Customer Service Centers can assist customers with switching to OMNY, provide information about how to submit complaints and receive information on travel delays, and more. Back to School Guide

The Manhattan Borough President’s Office has prepared a back to school resource guide for families across Manhattan. The guide includes information on local organizations offering extracurricular and enrichment opportunities, college assistance, special needs services, and basic needs (healthcare, food, and childcare) assistance.

RFP for a Food Market at Columbus Circle

The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation has issued a significant Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Installation, Operation, and Maintenance of a Food Market at Columbus Circle, Central Park, Manhattan. The RFP can be found at this link (log-in required). There will be a recommended remote proposer meeting on Thursday, October 30, at 3:00pm. The Parks Department must receive all proposals submitted in response to this RFP no later than Thursday, November 20, at 3:00pm.
