The Lincoln Square BID maintains an internal database of retail and commercial spaces in the district. As of Thursday, December 31, 2020, there are 30 unleased, vacant storefronts, making the current retail vacancy rate 12.3% by vacancies over total retail, garage, and nonprofit spaces.
The ongoing pandemic has exacerbated some of the problems already facing brick-and-mortar retail, as well as brought many new ones, but we are encouraged by several new retailers and restaurants who have opened in Lincoln Square and the many existing ones who have found creative ways to continue to serve their customers. Outdoor dining offered some of our restaurants a lifeline and many of our performing arts organizations are now offering robust virtual programming, which can be found on our events calendar. Currently, 71% of our retailers, restaurants, non-profits and garages are open either for in-person shopping, curbside pickup, delivery, or outdoor dining.
In 2020, eight new businesses open, including Paper Source, Rebag, Therabody and Vineyard Vines in The Shops at Columbus Circle; Target at 1863 Broadway; Spectrum at 1865 Broadway; and T-Mobile at 2012 Broadway. Six more retail businesses have leased locations in Lincoln Square with plans to open.
