History
Lincoln Square grew from a modest pastoral hamlet into one of New York City’s most iconic and culturally vibrant neighborhoods. While much of its history is known, the origin of its name remains debated—some attribute it to an early landowner, others to Abraham Lincoln—reflecting a layered and evolving past. From a small triangle of land, now Richard Tucker Park, to the community of San Juan Hill, it has transformed over time into the neighborhood we know today.
Living Here
Lincoln Square has it all: world-class eateries, a dynamic arts scene, excellent shopping, educational institutions, and proximity to Central and Riverside Parks. It also has Dante and Richard Tucker Parks, which are maintained and made comfortable with moveable tables, chairs, and umbrellas provided by the Lincoln Square BID. The BID’s Clean Team and Public Safety Officers help keep the streets clean and safe for everyone to enjoy. Lincoln Square is also beautified year-round by the BID’s seasonal plantings in the Broadway Malls, Dante and Richard Tucker Park, and nearly 100 planters and urns.
