John Procario: Freeforms highlights the contemporary designer’s sinuous ribbons of bentwood LED light sculptures and undulating furniture designs. To achieve the illusion of endless movement, Procario meticulously twists and shapes each strip of ash wood, which is then accentuated by discreetly embedded LEDs. Similarly, Procario’s Sculpted Sofas designs are completely informed by the shape and directionality of each work’s freeform wood base. Following an organic and intuitive creative process, Procario shapes surfaces through a slow-building practice that honors nature’s natural curves.
John Procario: Freeforms is made possible by support from Todd Merrill Studio, with additional support from Dedar Milano. Funding was also provided by the New York State Council on the Arts, with support from the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
