Antonín DVOŘÁK  Sonatina Op. 100 ▪ 1893
To Dvořák, Mozart was the greatest of all composers, and he expressed that “Mozart is sweet sunshine.” His own early compositions included 2 works that bear the Mozartian title of Serenade; and even in his most obviously nationalistic works that emerged in later life, the influence of Mozart is evident.

Frédéric CHOPIN  Étude in C# minor Op. 25 No. 7 ▪ 1834
   ▪ exuding extreme sadness—in a version for cello and piano, from the original for solo piano, by the Russian composer Alexander Glazunov, who deeply revered Mozart

TCHAIKOVSKY  Andante cantabile from String Quartet No. 1 Op. 11 ▪ 1871
   ▪ considered the first great Russian string quartet

SCHUBERT  Violin Sonata in A Major “Grand Duo” D. 574 ▪ 1817
   ▪ exquisite work balancing the contrasting influences of Beethoven and Rossini with his own lyricism

MOZART  Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major K. 488 ▪ 1786
   ▪ a sparkling jewel said to be one of his most intimate and expressive works—in A Major—a key he reserved for works with a transparent, joyous quality
