Celebrate Urban Bush Women's 40th Anniversary
Jul 30, 2024The Brooklyn-based performance ensemble and dance company Urban Bush Women tells stories that you’ve probably never heard before and tells them through a woman's perspective. With a deep connection to the African Diaspora community, the ensemble uses dance, community collaboration, and artistic leadership development to bring together diverse audiences. This month, celebrate Urban Bush Women’s 40th Anniversary with a vibrant series, part of Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City.
The ongoing 40th Anniversary series includes a mixture of workshops, talks, and performances. On July 31 (6:00pm) and August 4 (5:00pm), a Mindful Bodies & Reflective Practices workshop at the Griffin Sidewalk Studio in David Geffen Hall will focus on self-care, rejuvenation, and (re-)constructing healthful images. On July 31 at 7:00pm, a panel of women+ of color leaders will discuss the nuances of identity, community, values, support, and successes during When Black Women+ Speak at the David Rubenstein Atrium. The series wraps up at Hearst Plaza on August 4 at 6:00pm, when the Urban Bush Women will perform Haint Blu | Episodic Chapters. This site-responsive dance-theater work will explore the movements, histories, and stories of the group’s elders and ancestors, reflecting on what has been lost throughout the generations and what can be recovered.
These events are free and promise to be thought-provoking. Learn about additional Summer for the City events here.
