Little Amal Walks comes to Lincoln Square on 9/17

On Saturday, September 17, Little Amal (a giant puppet) will walk up from Columbus Circle at 1:30pm arriving at Lincoln Center Plaza at 1:50pm for a theatrical performance. At 2:50pm, Amal will begin a parade towards the American Museum of Natural History. While there are no planned street closures for this event, please be aware that it may cause travel delays, specifically on Broadway, Columbus Ave, and Central Park West. You can find out more here

New COVID-19 Booster Vaccines Are Available

New vaccines targeting the latest version of the Omicron variant are available at pharmacies and community health centers. The F.D.A. authorized the Pfizer-BioNTech booster for anyone 12 or older who received an initial vaccination or booster shot at least two months ago. Adults 18 or older can get the Moderna vaccine if it has been at least two months since their last vaccination. The C.D.C. recommended the same eligibility guidelines as the F.D.A. Masks No Longer Required on New York Public Transportation

Face masks are no longer required on mass transit in New York. The change applies to city subways and buses, the Long Island Rail Road, and the Metro-North Railroad. While masks are now optional, they are still encouraged. Click here to find out more information from the MTA.

Monkeypox (Orthopoxvirus)

Orthopoxvirus/monkeypox vaccines are available. If you have a new or unexpected rash or sores, contact a health care provider. For information on vaccination appointments, click here.

DOH to Spray Pesticides for Mosquitos on 9/15 - 9/16

Between 8:30pm on Thursday, September 15, and 6:00am on Friday, September 16, the NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene will spray pesticides in all of the Upper West Side to reduce mosquito activity and the risk of West Nile virus. Click here for more information. 

Virtual Rat Academy Training on 9/16

On Friday, September 16, 2022, at 1:00pm, there is a Virtual Rat Academy Training for building superintendents and staff, homeowners and tenants, and managing companies. The zoom event, sponsored by Manhattan Community Board 7, Council Member Gale Brewer, and Assembly Member Daniel O'Donnell, will cover rat prevention methods. You can register for this virtual event here

Global Citizen Festival at Central Park on 9/24

The Global Citizen Festival NYC will take place on Saturday, September 24, 2022, in Central Park on the Great Lawn. The gates at Central Park will open at 2:00 pm, and the show will start at 4:00pm. The event may cause travel delays. Find out more details about the event here.

Single-Block Street Fair on 9/25

On Sunday, September 25, there will be a single-block street fair benefitting the CB7 CERT program, which will cause a street closure on Broadway between 60th and 61st streets from 10:00am - 6:00pm.  

New Provisions to the Concealed Carry Firearm Laws

Effective September 1, 2022, there are added eligibility requirements, including completed firearm training courses for concealed carry applicants. The carrying of concealed weapons is also now restricted in a specified list of “sensitive locations,” including Times Square, bars and restaurants that serve alcohol, and entertainment venues. Licensees are not allowed to bring a concealed weapon into a private establishment unless they have explicit permission from the property owner.
