Get a Full Picture of the 61st New York Film Festival
Sep 27, 2023Are you ready to see bold and remarkable works from celebrated filmmakers and fresh new talent? Film at Lincoln Center’s annual New York Film Festival (NYFF) returns on September 29 through October 15 for its 61st year, and that’s exactly what you can expect to witness on the big screen. The festival will take place at venues throughout Lincoln Center, as well as theaters in all five boroughs.
The core of the program is the Main Slate, which showcases some of the most exceptional new films from around the world. This year’s Opening Night film is Todd Haynes’s May December, the Centerpiece selection is Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, while Michael Mann’s Ferrari will close NYFF61. NYFF’s Spotlight section, which exhibits some of the season’s most anticipated and significant films, will feature the North American premiere of Bradley Cooper’s Maestro as the Spotlight Gala on October 2. This is especially significant as the film is about the legendary Leonard Bernstein and will mark the first film to premiere in the new David Geffen Hall, home to the New York Philharmonic, which Bernstein led for over a decade.
Other sections of NYFF include Currents, which focuses on contemporary cinema with an emphasis on new and innovative forms and voices, and Revivals, which showcases digitally remastered, restored, and preserved films from renowned filmmakers. If you’re looking for a free way to take part in the NYFF, there are a number of talks that feature in-depth conversations with filmmakers, critics, curators, and more, as well as a Cinephile Game Night. These events are open to the public, and tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis one hour in advance at the box office.
If you haven’t already secured your tickets, you may need to join the standby lines on the day of the showings to experience the 61st NYFF. Some tickets remain, but don’t dilly-dally if you want to be a part of the action. You can get a full picture of the festival, including lineup, ticket information, and more, by visiting NYFF’s website.
