It’s Back-to-School Shopping Season
Aug 24, 2022While we are sad to see summer vacation come to an end, we are looking forward to seeing all the students head off to school in a few weeks. There’s nothing like starting a new year off with a fresh set of school supplies, and even better is getting to pick them out yourself. So, we’ve put together a list of businesses where you and/or your student can get all the supplies needed for the upcoming 2022-23 school year. For everyone in elementary school through college, you will find everything right here in Lincoln Square.
Let’s start off with the essentials. Everyone needs notebooks, pens, and paper. Target will be your best bet for basic school supplies, with another good option being Duane Reade. For those students who enjoy a more specialized selection, Moleskine has some sophisticated options, and Paper Source has great artsy and colorful choices.
If you are looking for a way to give back this year, pick up some extra supplies and backpacks to donate to the Good Neighbor Initiative Back to School Supply Drive, sponsored by Ethical NYC, the Social Justice Network, and the National Action Network Second Chance Committee. They are collecting backpacks and school supplies for K-12 children at NYCHA’s Amsterdam Houses and will accept whatever you can bring. You can drop off donations at the Amsterdam Houses Community Room at 218 W 64th Street on Saturday, August 27, from 12:00pm - 3:00pm. For questions, please contact Social Service Board Community Outreach Coordinator Marlene Williamson at mwilliamson@socialserviceboard.org.
Back to school also means back to books. Shakespeare and Co. has a selection of textbooks and books to read for fun. And, of course, if you’re a student at Fordham or Juilliard, your school has its own bookstore where you can find what you need. Check out Fordham University’s Bookstore and The Juilliard Store.
Next up is tech. With more and more schoolwork being digital, we know many students need the latest gadgets to keep up. Best Buy and Apple have got you covered there. From laptops to tablets to all the cords you need for them, you can find it all in Lincoln Square.
Do you need dorm décor? Bed Bath & Beyond, as well as Target, will have everything you need to make your new dwelling feel like home. If your student is moving into an apartment instead, you can get furniture pieces at Raymour & Flanigan, West Elm, and Pottery Barn.
Everyone wants to be fashion-forward. Lincoln Square is home to so many clothing stores; you’re sure to find the perfect wardrobe for every type of style. Check out your choices at H&M, Gap & GapKids, J.Crew, Vineyard Vines, and Target.
For many, the start of school also means the start of sports teams. For all of your sporting goods, including apparel, check out a recent addition to Lincoln Square, Wilson.
If it wasn’t clear already, Lincoln Square is a one-stop shop for the back-to-school season. To find even more open places to shop for this upcoming academic year, visit our Neighborhood Guide.
