Lights Up on Lincoln Square was a Success
Jan 4, 2023December was a doozy in Lincoln Square! Starting with our Tree Lighting, continuing with all of our outdoor performances, and culminating in our WinteRamble, the past month of Lights Up on Lincoln Square was a true delight.
We lit the Lincoln Square Holiday Tree, a Fraser Fir from Bliss, NY, which features unique ornaments from Color Me Mine, our local pottery studio, and thousands of LED lights, on December 5, 2022, at Dante Park. The ceremony was hugely successful and featured CHIA's Dance Party and the Department of Spectacle.
At our outdoor performances, some of our favorite acts returned, like Frank London and the Klezmer Brass Allstars, Mariachi Nuevo Mexico, the Eric Person Quartet, the Gabriele Tranchina Band, VocalSouL, and The Fabulous Fezziwigs. We also had some outstanding new groups grace our stage at Dante Park, including Six13, Yip's Dragon Style Chinese Lion Dance, Bronte Roman's Jazz & Pop Ensemble, and the Kaufman Music Center Special Music School High School.
The greatest triumph in our event series was our WinteRamble, led by Processional Arts Workshop and the Frost Giants. We meandered around Lincoln Square with countless community members to welcome in the winter solstice. The ethereal sounds of J.C. King’s Kalimbascope accompanied this beautiful sight. So many people along the route stopped to watch and marvel at what we were doing and took lots of photos and videos. Before our procession began, participants created their own mini paper lanterns to help illuminate the parade in a workshop at TD Bank at 1873 Broadway. It was a true family-friendly event that was fun for all ages.
Don't forget that you can still visit The Big Apple, Musical Tree, and Music Box by DIX au carré and urban art designer Felix Marzell at Dante Park between Broadway and Columbus Avenue at 63rd and 64th Streets, as well as our Holiday Tree. Our Tumbling Brights, 15 ethereal figures tumbling up and down Broadway amid lighted trees, will illuminate the Broadway Mall interiors from 60th Street to 70th Street through January.
