Meet Our New Neighbors, Yumiko and EA Dumpling
May 21, 2024The northern end of the Lincoln Square BID is brimming with new stores this spring. Yumiko and EA Dumpling both recently opened, brightening up Amsterdam Avenue’s retail stock. Plus, more storefronts are giving signs of new life and will hopefully open in the coming weeks and months.
Yumiko (169 Amsterdam Ave between W 67th and W 68th Street) adds a new dance clothing option to a neighborhood that has drawn dancers for decades. The company was founded in 2002 by Japanese designer and professional ballerina Yumiko Takeshima. It offers quality leotards and dancewear for men and women and is recognized for its clean designs and sustainable business practices. In addition to ready-made pieces, clients can select a pre-designed style and customize the piece based on their own preferences for fabric, color, sleeve length, and more. Their workshop is located in Southern Spain, and the factory is run on 100% green energy.
Two blocks north, EA Dumpling (201 Amsterdam Ave between W 69th and W 70th Street) opened between Gourmet Square and J’s Cleaners. This small storefront brings another affordable lunch or dinner option to the neighborhood. In addition to classic dumpling and noodle dishes, appetizers (priced at just $5) include options like Chinese pickled cucumber salad, tofu skin salad, and tofu noodles with celery and carrots.
You can also expect more newcomers to this end of the neighborhood over the coming months. Just last week, the West Side Rag reported that H Mart, a popular Korean-Asian grocery store, finally put up signs at its future location, 210-220 Amsterdam Ave (between W 69th and W 70th Street). A couple of blocks away at 2014 Broadway (between W 68th and W 69th Street), construction is also taking place at Canto, a new Italian restaurant that is scheduled to open in June 2024.
