A Sweet Sixteen for Bar Boulud

A Sweet Sixteen for Bar Boulud

This month, Bar Boulud (1900 Broadway at W 64th Street) celebrated its 16th anniversary. The French wine bar and bistro has called Lincoln Square home since 2008, and has enhanced the dining scene in the heart of the district ever since. Celebrations ensued to commemorate the momentous occasion.

While most sweet sixteen hosts don’t boast about serving alcohol, this situation was certainly an exception. In true Bar Boulud fashion, Chef Daniel Boulud and the entire Bar Boulud team invited the public to celebrate over glasses of their traditional large format bottles and complimentary charcuterie.

Opening large format bottles and pouring them by the glass is a daily tradition at Bar Boulud called the Grand Panier. The special custom is part of Bar Boulud’s wine program, which highlights the wine region of Lyon, specifically Burgundy and the Rhone Valley. However, you will find wines from all over the world at Bar Boulud, including from lesser-known corners of France as well as the U.S. The wine selection pairs perfectly with the seasonal French fare inspired by Boulud’s childhood in the countryside outside Lyon. The menu also includes classics such as Coq au Vin and Trout Amandine as well as traditional terrines and pâtés curated by famed Charcutier Gilles Verot.

Located across from Lincoln Center, Bar Boulud is a perfect pre-show dining destination. While its main dining room has a contemporary design, the curved ceiling replicates that of a wine cave and provides a cozy atmosphere. When the weather permits, outdoor seating is also available on the heated and canopied terrace.

If you weren't able to make it to the celebration, consider visiting the bistro between January 16 and February 4, as Bar Boulud is participating in Restaurant Week. Wednesday through Friday, the bistro will serve a two-course lunch for $45, or you can enjoy a three-course dinner for $60, Monday through Sunday. For those who like to plan ahead, you can also already reserve a table for Valentine’s Day at Bar Boulud, which will provide a three-course prix-fixe menu for $115 per person.

If you're on the go, Chef Daniel Boulud also runs Épicerie Boulud (1900 Broadway at W 64th Street), an eat-in and take-out market and café. His other restaurant, Boulud Sud (20 W 64th Street at Broadway), is currently closed, but we look forward to celebrating its re-opening once its renovations are complete! Lincoln Square's "Restaurant Row" across from Lincoln Center is also home to other great dining options, including Cafe Fiorello (1900 Broadway between W 63rd and W 64th Street) and The Smith (1900 Broadway at W 63rd Street).

Happy sweet sixteen, Bar Boulud - cheers to sixteen more!
