Art Series at the NYC Ballet for Winter 2019

As part of the New York City Ballet's annual, acclaimed Art Series, the Company's 2019 Winter Season will feature a collaborative installation with contemporary artist Shantell Martin.

This London-born, New York-based artist is known for her signature black-and-white line drawings that combine words, figures, and curving lines into a visual narrative. For the 2019 Art Series installation, Martin drew inspiration from NYCB's dancers, both through interviews she conducted with many of them and by creating original drawings on canvas while observing the Company rehearsing on the stage of the David H. Koch Theater.

Martin's NYCB Art Series installations will be on display at the David H. Koch Theater from now through Sunday, March 3 during all of the 2019 Winter Season performances. There will also be three special Art Series performances, which will take place on Saturday, February 2; Friday, February 8; and Saturday, March 2, all at 8:00pm respectively. All single tickets for these three Art Series performances are $35. Click here for information. Each Art Series performance will be followed by a post-performance party on the theater's Promenade open to all audience members, each of whom will receive a special limited-edition takeaway created by Martin to commemorate the NYCB Art Series collaboration.

NYCB will also host free, open hours for the general public to view the exhibition from Saturday, February 16 through Sunday, February 24, at the following times:

  • Monday through Friday from 10:00am to 6:00pm.
  • Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00am to noon.
