Book Clubs, Talks, and Launches at Shakespeare & Co.

Shakespeare & Co. (2020 Broadway at 69th Street) offers a number of free community events every month, giving bibliophiles an opportunity to come together over what they love the most: books! 

On the first Wednesday of every month, Shakespeare & Co. hosts a free book club meeting open to the public. The next meeting is on Wednesday, April 3 and will be focused on Chloe Benjamin's engrossing novel The ImmortalistsStop in to the store today to pick up a paperback copy to read, and then come back on April 3 to discuss the novel with other book-lovers. Each attendee receives 10% off a glass of wine and 10% off the next month's Book Club selection. 

Book Talks continue to be a success at Shakespeare & Co. The Upper West Side bookstore brings various authors to discuss their lives and work with the public weeknights at 7:00pm:

  • Thursday, March 21: For Women's History Month, join author Greer Macallister in conversation with author Fiona Davis to discuss Greer's novel, WOMAN 99, and historical fiction's impact on illuminating important themes in women's history.
  • Tuesday, March 26: author Diane Kiesel will talk about her book, She Can Bring Us Home, which tells the story of Dorothy Boulding Ferebee, an African American obstetrician and civil rights pioneer
  • Tuesday, April 2: Jaclyn London, the Nutrition Director of Good Housekeeping, will examine diet myths and mental blocks from her book Dressing on the Side. 
  • Thursday, April 4: Meryl Gordon will discuss her biography Bunny Melon: The Life of An American Style Legend detailing the life of the American aristocrat who designed the White House Rose Garden for JFK. 
  • Wednesday, April 10: Join in conversation with author S.W. Leicher as she discusses her novel, Acts of Assumption, and the themes it explores around forbidden love, cultural bonds, and the wounds both inflict.
Interested in supporting a new author and the release of her first novel? Stop in to Shakespeare & Co. on Thursday, March 28 from 7:00pm - 8:00pm to celebrate the release of Home, the first novel of Ellen Gilman.
