Celebrate the 4th of July in Lincoln Square

Summer has officially arrived, which means our favorite summer holiday is just around the corner. The Fourth of July is a time filled with excitement and summer fun, and luckily there is so much to do and find here in Lincoln Square to help you spend this hot occasion just the way you'd like.   

 

If you're trying to throw a celebratory party in your outdoor space--or, if you're lucky enough to escape the city heat and head upstate or to the Hamptons--of course you'll need the cookout essentials. At Lowe's Home Improvement (2008 Broadway at 68th Street), you can pick up a brand new grill for the occasion plus great grilling accessories and more. Bed Bath and Beyond (1932 Broadway at 65th Street) is another great spot in the neighborhood for outdoor supplies and party supplies, including plates and plastic-ware or festive dinnerware. You can pick up a lemonade pitcher at the same time you snag a mosquito repellent candle. Afterwards, head over to Gourmet Garage at 155 West 66th Street or down Broadway to Whole Foods Market inside of The Shops at Columbus Circle. At both locations, you can find so many high quality cookout food staples, like fresh produce and meats (both locations have a special butcher counter/shop). 

 

If you do not have a terrace or outdoor area, or would rather enjoy a simple outdoor meal, grab a picnic basket, fill it with foods from home or from one of Lincoln Square's quick casual eateries, and head over to one of the Lincoln Square BID's seating areas at Richard Tucker Park or Dante Park. We provide moveable tables and chairs and shade umbrellas at these two relaxing parks, perfect for small lunchtime picnic gatherings to celebrate the summer.  

 

Also in the neighborhood, you can get stylish for the occasion with summer sales and festive clothing. In The Shops at Columbus Circle, both Ted Baker and Thomas Pink on the ground floor are having summer sales in-store through the month of June (Thomas Pink also through July). On the second floor of The Shops at Columbus Circle, H&M is selling a special, festive collection of clothing for Independence Day. Also, further up in the district at 1972 Broadway, Century 21 Department Store is having its semi-annual clearance sale. 

 

And, if you don't have any plans to party, you can stop into a local restaurant for dinner plans (check out our Neighborhood Guide to search district eateries). You can also visit AMC Loews Theater at 1998 Broadway (at 68th Street) or Film Society of Lincoln Center at 70 Lincoln Center Plaza to escape the summer holiday heat with a new blockbuster or independent film. If you'd like a live performance, Lincoln Center Theater has a showing of Oslo at the Vivian Beaumont Theater on July 4th at  7:00pm, a surprising comedy about the 1993 Oslo Peace Accords between the Israelis and Palestinians. Plus, you can still purchase tickets to Lincoln Center's Midsummer Night Swing July 4th event, featuring swing music from David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band in honor of Louis Armstrong himself. 

 

It is impossible to have a boring holiday this July 4th in Lincoln Square!
