DSNY Designation of 20 Commercial Waste Zones

The NYC Department of Sanitation has proposed a rule establishing 20 Commercial Waste zones, together with certifications by the Law Department and Mayor's Office of Operations. Click here to view the proposed rule and map. The proposed rule was published in the City Record on Thursday, December 12, 2019. The rule contains a notice to the public for the opportunity to comment on the rule through COB January 13, 2020. DSNY will hold its agency public hearing at 125 Worth Street in the 2nd floor auditorium from 9:30am to 12:00pm on Monday, January 13, 2020. This is the public's last opportunity to comment on the rule. Following the comment period, DSNY will consider all comments and then publish the final rule which will become effective 30 days after such publication.

Tree-cycling with DSNY

The New York City Department of Sanitation is collecting Christmas trees curbside now through Friday, January 17, weather permitting. Residents should remove all stands, tinsel, lights and ornaments before putting trees out for collection. After collection, clean, non-bagged Christmas trees will be chipped, mixed with leaves, and recycled into compost for the city's parks, institutions and community gardens. Those needing to get rid of mostly plastic and metal artificial Christmas trees should consider selling or donating them. Donation opportunities may be found at nyc.gov/donate
