NYPD Cadet Corps Orientations in February 2023

Attention all college students! The NYPD Cadet Corps will provide you with real life training and experience through hands-on work that makes a difference. This is a great way to acquire valuable skills, earn a competitive salary, and receive up to $20,000 in tuition assistance, all while working a flexible schedule. There will be two orientations for the program, one on Saturday, February 4, at 10am and one on Monday, February 20, at 10am, both at the Police Academy at 130-30 28th Avenue, College Point, NY 11354. Learn more about the program and register for orientation here. 

 

New Rules on Trash Placement from DSNY

 

Effective on Saturday, April 1, 2023, there are new rules for businesses in NYC regarding putting trash out for pickup by their private carter. According to the new rules, a business must either place waste out after 8:00 PM if putting bags directly on the curb or place waste out one hour before closing in a secure container. DCWP Notice of Adoption on Space Heaters

 

The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) is adding rules to implement Local Law 64 of 2022, which will go into effect on March 3, 2023. This rule adds a penalty schedule for violations related to the sale of certain electric space heaters. The rule also clarifies section numbers in chapter 6 of Title 6 of the Rules of the City of New York. Please click here to read the Notice of Adoption.

 

Donate a Bike! 

 

The New York City Department of Transportation has partnered with the NYC Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs, the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services, Unlimited Biking, and Recycle-A-Bicycle to receive, repair, and distribute donated bikes to recent arrivals from the southern border, as well as helmets and locks. Drop your bike donations off at Unlimited Biking every day from 9 AM - 5 PM at the following locations: 56 West 56th Street, 346 West 57th Street, and 79 Chambers Street. Learn more about the program here.  

 

The 2023 Manhattan Community Board Application Period is Open

 

Community Boards are the independent and representative voices of their communities. The Boards are pivotal in shaping their communities and work to enhance and preserve the character of the city’s many unique neighborhoods. The 2023 Community Board Application is open until March 17, 2023, at 5pm. Submit your application to serve on your Community Board here.

 

DEP Water Bill Amnesty Program

DEP is offering a water bill Amnesty Program available through April 30, 2023. Customers in all tax classes and with any amount of water bill debt are eligible, which means that nearly 1 in 4 customers may be able to benefit. The Amnesty Program will offer customers up to 100% forgiveness of accrued interest if they pay all or part of their outstanding debt and enter into a payment agreement.
