Ebikes Alert from the NYPD

The following information was sent to us by the NYPD:

The operation of motorized scooters aka “ebikes” is unlawful in NYC. Anyone operating an ebike may be issued a summons and the ebike may be seized. NYC Admin. Code 19-176.2(b).

Businesses are reminded that possession of ebikes is prohibited. Businesses are also prohibited from permitting employees to operate ebikes on behalf of the business. Businesses violating this provision of law may be subject to enforcement. NYC Admin. Code 10-157(k).

An ebike is a wheeled device that has handlebars, can be stood or sat upon, and is powered by an electric or gasoline motor that is capable of propelling the device without human power.
