Extreme Heat: Weekend 7.19 - 7.21

With extreme heat hitting the City this weekend, the 2019 Verizon New York City Triathlon, scheduled to take place Saturday, July 20, has been canceled.

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for 12:00pm Friday to 8:00pm Sunday. As temperatures increase, NYC Emergency Management and the Health Department advise New Yorkers to prepare for the severe weather: take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside; when possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening; know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke; wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible; and drink plenty of water. You can also visit a local NYC Cooling Station to avoid the heat during the day. In Lincoln Square, both the Riverside Library (Amsterdam and 65th Street) and the Library for the Performing Arts (on Lincoln Center’s Campus) are official Cooling Stations.
