Film Society of Lincoln Center: '77 Series

Forty years ago this summer, the American box office was having a stratospheric moment. So many movies that we've come to enjoy as classics and truly terrific cinema come from the year 1977. The Film Society of Lincoln Center is using the month of August to commemorate several of 1977's accomplished films, immersing audiences in a captivating sense of excitement and nostalgia, by showing them on the silver screen again through its '77 Series. 

 

From now through Thursday, August 24, audiences can enjoy an array of films which swept through theaters from the U.S., to the U.K., to even France, and a likewise wide range of genres, from thriller to comedy. Choose from a selection of 33 great films, including toe-taping Saturday Night Fever, David Lynch's surrealist Eraserhead, horror-flick The Car, or such foreign successes as the witchy Italian thriller Suspiria and French romance That Obscure Object of Desire, and many more. Click here for a full list of films and showtimes. 

 

The Film Society's international survey of great 1977 films from around the world celebrates a diverse and wildly enjoyable cinematic landscape. Tickets for non-members are $14 and you can purchase them individually online. There are package deals available if you'd like to see more than one of the films.
