Films from The Coalition for a New Plaza Cinema

A new group looking to harness the energy of independent movie film fans—those who patronized Lincoln Plaza Cinemas—has come to the Upper West Side, devoted to bringing quality independent and foreign films to screens for New Yorkers and Upper West Siders. Dubbed The Coalition for a New Plaza Cinema, the not-for-profit group is screening some of the same films that they say would have been shown at Lincoln Plaza Cinemas, and plans to eventually open a new theater. Currently, films are screening at the JCC Manhattan (334 Amsterdam Avenue at 76th Street) in partnership with the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan for a Summer Film Series through Friday, August 17. Films in the series include Bye Bye Germany, a postwar comedy about a group of frends escaping Nazi Germany for America; Hotel Salvation, an Indian film about family bonds and the journey to personal salvation; and more. Check out New Plaza Cinema’s website or the JCC Manhattan's website for tickets and show times. Tickets for the public are $15.00.
