Free Events at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts
Sep 19, 2017The New York Public Library system offers more than 93,000 programs annually, serving everyone from toddlers to teens to seniors. Specifically in Lincoln Square, with entrances at 40 Lincoln Center Plaza and 111 Amsterdam Avenue, the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (NYLPA) has listed a plentiful roster of free events for this fall and winter in addition to housing one of the world's most extensive combinations of circulating, reference, and rare archival collections in its field. The NYLPA is an essential resource for everyone with an interest in the arts and its many upcoming events support this fact.
The NYLPA's current schedule details a host of events between Tuesday, September 19 and Tuesday, January 30. These events all focus on some element of performing arts and feature a wide range of subject matter, from small traditional jazz concerts to presentations from theater writing workshops to poetry readings and more. Coming up in the next few weeks into October, events include: Arts to Share from India and Iran, on Friday, September 29, during which Indian writer Mimi Mondal and her mentor, Iranian writer and editor Poupeh Missaghi, discuss censorship, banned books, "American" arts, and their immigration stories; Silent Shorts Jamborie, on Saturday, October 14, during which audiences can enjoy a viewing of 1920s silent comedies; and Laurie Anderson's Listen List, on Monday, October 16, during which artist Laurie Anderson will sit for an interview and answer questions about her work and personal life.
Some events are general admission and admit patrons day-of on a first come, first served basis. Other events required pre-registration to secure a space. Be sure to check out event listing details and register ASAP for those which require pre-registration, as space fills up very quickly; several upcoming events are already sold-out!
