Fun and Free Programs with Kaufman Music Center
Sep 14, 2021A cultural and entertainment staple in the neighborhood, Kaufman Music Center is bringing free programs to Lincoln Square in late September.
Building on the success of the popular Musical Storefronts series of more than 100 pop-up concerts from January to April, 2021, Kaufman Music Center (KMC) is launching a new, season-long free performance series featuring chamber musicians, soloists, Broadway stars and more in inspired and spontaneous formats. Presented at Merkin Hall (129 West 67th Street) and at locations throughout the Upper West Side, Just in Time features established performers and exciting new voices. The series will build and strengthen connections with the community by bringing new audiences to Merkin Hall, and taking the music to listeners in unexpected spaces in the neighborhood. The series kicks off with Broadway star Sally Wilfert on Friday, September 24 and continues with pianist Conrad Tao and vocalist Charmaine Lee, the genre-blending flute duo Flutronix, the global music collective People of Earth, Grammy winners Caroline Shaw and Andrew Yee, and Broadway star Matthew Scott. New concerts will be announced throughout the season. Free tickets are available on a first come, first served basis. You can RSVP on the individual concert pages on KMC’s website.
This month you can also try out music, dance and theater classes for free through the fall Adult Division Open Houses program at Kaufman Music Center’s Lucy Moses School (129 West 67th Street). If learning to play an instrument is on your bucket list, or if you’d like to reconnect with an old interest or take your musical skills to the next level, sign up today with Kaufman Music Center! Through the Adult Division Open Houses, you can meet faculty, take a 10-minute instrument lesson (instruments provided), try out a Dalcroze or dance class, join a Chamber Music or Opera Workshop placement session, or audition for KMC’s Nashir chorale. The Open Houses take place on Sunday, September 26, from 1:00pm-3:30pm and Wednesday, September 29, from 5:30pm-8:00pm. All ages and levels, including beginners, are welcome. RSVP is required to attend the Open Houses, contact (212) 501-3360 or lucymosesschool@kaufmanmusiccenter.org.
