Live in Lincoln Square

If you’re feeling the urge to get out and enjoy culture, there isn’t a shortage of fun live entertainment in the neighborhood coming up in the next few weeks. Though we know not everyone is comfortable attending in-person events at the moment—there are online events to discover locally if so, many of which are on our Events Calendar here—comprehensive safety policies and mandates are making it possible to have fun safely in Lincoln Square. We’ve highlighted a few upcoming events you don’t want to miss.

Enjoy Authentic Selves: The Beauty Within, a live series from the New York Philharmonic with events from Thursday, January 27 – Saturday, February 5. For the series, Anthony Roth Costanzo joins the New York Philharmonic and Jaap van Zweden in celebrating  the complexity of identity over two weeks. Several concerts in this series are also eligible for NYC & Company’s Must See Week 2-for-1 dealClick here for concerts and events from the series which will take place at the Rose Theater, Alice Tully Hall, or the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse.

The Metropolitan Opera continues to present an amazing roster of performances, including Mozart’s breathtaking comedy Le Nozze di Figaro, Verdi’s timeless tragedy Rigoletto, and more live inside of its iconic home on Lincoln Center’s campus. This week a few performances are still eligible for NYC & Company’s Must See Week 2-for-1 dealClick here to view the Met’s calendar for this seasonNote that the Met Opera is also requiring proof of a booster shot for all audience members eligible.

Jazz at Lincoln Center will host two-time Grammy Award-winning vocalist and pianist Diane Schuur at Dizzy’s Club between Thursday, January 27 and Sunday, January 30. Click here for details and tickets. Also, if you’re not yet comfortable with in-person events you can catch a live stream of the performances on Thursday, January 27 for $10.

The Juilliard School is continuing to present free and low-cost student concerts and performances around the school’s nearby venues, including Paul Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and more. Check out Indecent from the Drama department from Wednesday, January 26 – Friday, January 28 or a piano and harpsichord performance, AXIOM, on Monday, January 31. Click here for the full calendar of events, many of which offer livestreaming options for those unable to attend in person.

Kaufman Music Center’s Merkin Hall calendar features several classical performances coming up between Friday, February 4 and Wednesday, February 9. Enjoy a concert with Artist-in-Residence Kamala Sankaram alongside student-composed pieces and Face the Music Songwriter performances or listen to the 2022 Concerto Competition winners from Kaufman Music Center's Lucy Moses School, Special Music School and Young Artist Program perform solo works with an orchestra, and more! Click here to check out the calendar. The New York City Ballet is also set to open its winter season this Thursday, January 27 with New Combinations, an annual tradition honoring Balanchine’s birthday with new choreography in the David H. Koch Theater. Performances will take place for the winter season through the end of February, and the roster includes Swan Lake, All Balanchine, and more. Intimate Apparel (a new opera) is now in previews at Lincoln Center Theater’s (LCT) Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. The show is part of The Met/LCT Opera/Musical Theater Commissioning Program and it’s the first to be done at LCT. Click here for details on the show and ticket options.
