Local Food Pantry is Now on Wheels
Operating for almost a month, the West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH), together with local elected officials and service providers, has launched a custom refrigerated van which can serve healthy foods to vulnerable and under-served populations across the Upper West Side. First launching on Tuesday, May 15 at Goddard Riverside at Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center on West 65th Street, this food pantry on wheels offers fresh vegetables and fruits, grains, dairy products, and canned foods so those in need of food assistance can shop for good foods. The mobile pantry was partially funded thanks to a Participatory Budgeting allocation of $250,000 from Council member Helen Rosenthal. WSCAH began testing in October 2017 before the mobile unit was completed, and found that they could help feed over 3,000 households. Now, the official truck operates four days per week and serves clients at 17 locations around the City. Click here to learn more about the West Side Campaign Against Hunger's Mobile Food Pantry.
