Nestled in a corner on the seventh floor of 1841 Broadway is a special business that's called Lincoln Square home for 27 years and connects deeply to the cultural musical roots of this area. The Flute Center of New York, owned by Phil Unger, is the leading retailer for both new and consignment flutes and piccolos, offering repair services too. Phil began this business offering high quality flute repair services, but more than that, at the core of Flute Center's values today are efforts to foster a strong sense of community for the musicians that it serves; it is a destination for flutists around the world, both professional and aspiring. Inside of the Center, you'll find two cozy practice rooms--one named after Sir James Galway and the other, Ian Anderson, both of whom are customers of the shop--and comfortable seating in the center of the space. On these couches, Juilliard students, traveling orchestra members, and local musicians often meet and sit for a chat. Moreover, Flute Center hosts small events like Master Classes with well-known flutists and also offers special customer services such as ClubFCNY, which is a free membership for flute teachers designed to help them better serve their pupils.
