New Plaza Cinema Searching for Rentable Space
May 19, 2021Are you a property owner with vacant space available? New Plaza Cinema is searching for a new home to rent around Lincoln Square.
New Plaza Cinema is a nonprofit cinema that was formed in 2018 after the closing of the six screen Lincoln Plaza Cinemas in order to keep art cinema alive in upper Manhattan. New Plaza operated successfully at the NYIT Auditorium at West 62nd Street and Broadway starting in 2018, showing weekend films to 600 - 900 paying customers. In January 2020, just five days after NYIT offered New Plaza Cinema a four year lease, the NYIT cinema was destroyed by flooding from the water main break. Since then, New Plaza has been successfully operating an online cinema and film education center, delivering more than 30 events to over 7,000 registrants.
Now that the City is recovering, New Plaza Cinema is seeking a space on the Upper West Side that can be converted into a big screen cinema, preferably with at least two screens. According to New Plaza Cinema, it is important that this space be in the Upper West Side in order to meet the needs of the tens of thousands of devoted customers of the old Lincoln Plaza Cinemas who have been patiently awaiting their physical reopening. If you may have a space available that seems like it would be a good fit for New Plaza Cinema, email contact@newplazacinema.org.
We wish New Plaza Cinema well in finding a new home. In the meantime, check out AMC Lincoln Square 13 (1998 Broadway at West 68th Street), Film at Lincoln Center (70 Lincoln Plaza on West 65th Street between Amsterdam Avenue and Broadway), and Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan (344 Amsterdam Avenue at West 74th Street) for in-person film screenings.
