New York City has introduced a new three-month temporary amnesty program, Fines and Interest Reduction Enabling Recovery (FAIRER), to help businesses recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Through this program, individuals and businesses are allowed to apply for a discount up to 75% on delinquent Environmental Control Board (ECB) fines issued during the pandemic by City agencies such as the NYC Department of Sanitation, the New York City Fire Department and NYC Department of Buildings. The amount that customers can save will depend on when their ECB violations went into judgement and whether the party named in the violation (respondent) attended a hearing held by the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings.

The FAIRER program began on Monday, September 20 and will run through Monday, December 20. To participate, you must pay your ECB violations in full by the last day of the program. Click here to learn more and to participate in the FAIRER program.
