Picturesque Performances in Lincoln Square
Nov 6, 2023Did you know a new musical is currently premiering in Lincoln Square? Or that a circus comes to town each year in Damrosch Park? How about that you can see a modern dance company in the district, in addition to your favorite ballet companies? Lincoln Square is jam-packed with a variety of unforgettable performances in November and December!
Lincoln Center Theater, home to three theaters, including Broadway’s Vivian Beaumont Theater, presents a variety of musicals, plays, and exclusive opportunities year-round. You can see The Gardens of Anuncia now while it's in previews or when it officially opens on November 20. Performances run through December 31 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater (150 W 65th Street). The off-Broadway musical, created by Michael John LaChiusa, shares the backstory of the play’s director and co-choreographer, renowned dancer Graciela Daniele. Anyone 21-35 years old can access affordably priced tickets by signing up for LincTix, Lincoln Center Theater's discount ticket program. Another potential way to access affordably priced tickets is through TKTS or via TDF membership, while regular tickets are available through the Lincoln Center Theater website.
When the Paul Taylor Dance Company is not touring around the world, they call Lincoln Center’s David Koch Theater (20 Lincoln Center Plaza) home. Critics have already taken note of the Company's performances this season, including a recent feature in the New York Times. Find tickets for this season here to immerse yourself in modern dance, live accompaniment, powerful choreography, creative expression, and a range of performances. The Company also offers workshops, intensives, and masterclasses where dancers are enriched in modern dance and learn the vast history behind it. Courses are offered for a variety of ages and levels of experience, including those who are taking a dance class for the first time.
All ages are welcome to engage in the whimsy and fun that the Big Apple Circus has to offer. Though not always under the same management, the circus has been performing at Lincoln Center for 41 years, each year with a completely new theme. This year's theme is “Journey to the Rainbow.” While the circus does not feature animals, it does present a variety of global circus acts, live musicians, and local dancers. In town from November 8 – January 1 at Damrosch Park, it is a spectacle you don’t want to miss. Performances are beginning to sell out, so don’t forget to purchase your tickets soon!
Colder weather may be at hand, but there are plenty of ways to immerse yourself in the array of performances and workshops that Lincoln Square has to offer. For even more activity ideas this season, check our our events calendar or peruse our Neighborhood Guide.
