Plan a Movie Night

Enjoy a night out at the movies this May with several local options and series around Lincoln Square.

Film at Lincoln Center (FLC) opened last month for in-person screenings and will continue to show new films in-theaters throughout May with COVID-19 safety protocols. Currently, the New Directors/New Films Festival is still screening films through Saturday, May 8. Coming up, enjoy titles like In the Mood for Love, opening Friday May 14, as part of a series of Wong Kar Wai films; or Swimming Out Till the Sea Turns Blue, an FLC exclusive documentary from Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhangke, opening Friday, May 28. FLC is still also showing films through the Virtual Cinema platform and also plans to participate in Restart Stages outside at Lincoln Center. Films are showing at both the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center (144 West 65th Street) and the Walter Reade Theater (165 West 65th Street). Click here to read more about the spring lineup.

You can also catch a movie at AMC Lincoln Square 13 (1998 Broadway at 68th Street), which has a number of protocols and offers in place to keep moviegoers safe and the experience fun. Check out what’s in theaters now here, and choose from movies like Raya and the Last Dragon, Nobody, and more. AMC Lincoln Square 13 also features films from the company’s Artisan Films programming, and is currently showing Promising Young Woman. For many of the films screening, you can get tickets at a 30% discount for matinee times (before 5:00pm) and AMC Stubs members can enjoy discount Tuesdays every week. This location also offers guests the ability to order food and drink ahead of time through the AMC Theater app. Check out AMC’s other amenities here.

The Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan will begin a series of evening film screenings in-person on the rooftop of its building (334 Amsterdam Ave at 76th Street). The screenings will be outdoors with social distancing and safety guidelines. The first screening will take place for three nights, from Tuesday, May 18 – Thursday, May 20 at 8:00pm. During these nights the JCC will play Us Kids, a documentary film that chronicles the March For Our Lives movement. Click here to read more about Us Kids and purchase tickets. Tickets for the screenings are $15 per person. Once ordered online, ticket holders will receive a confirmation email with details about health and safety protocols. Click here to browse the JCC's film programming

If you’re still not yet comfortable heading to an in-person movie screening, you can rent independent and foreign movies virtually through New Plaza Cinema and Film at Lincoln Center. Check out movies for rent at New Plaza Cinema here and also join in for some of its free, online talks and lectures too. With Film at Lincoln Center, you can browse virtual cinema titles here—a number of films are still being released virtually in addition to those being shown in-person.

Enjoy a special movie night in Lincoln Square with new and special films you can stream or watch in person!
