Special June Programming at Lincoln Center
May 25, 2021Lincoln Center will celebrate Pride this June at Restart Stages, its outdoor performing arts and programming venue, with music, theater performances, and newly commissioned works that honor the histories, struggles, and contributions of the LGBTQIA+ communities. For the occasion, Lincoln Center is partnering with the National Queer Theater showcasing two new theater works as part of the Criminal Queerness Festival, which you can read about here. The first performance is titled <<when we write with ashes>> and details a story of love complicated by fascism, eroticism and—ultimately—death. The performance will happen on Thursday, June 24 at 7:00pm. The second work titled This is Not a Memorized Script, This is a Well-Rehearsed Story will premiere on Friday, June 25 at 7:00pm and tells the lived experience and evolution of a creative queer scholar and a lover. Both will take place at The Isabel and Peter Malkin Stage at Hearst Plaza and will have free tickets available through the TodayTix lottery as the performance dates near. Other events happening to honor pride include, Treya Lam’s headlining debut of politically charged songwriting and fluent instrumental prowess, an outrageous and gender-busting solo musical theater performance called LatinXoxo, and more. Lincoln Center's Restart Stages will also host two events for Juneteenth, the holiday celebrating the emancipation of those who had been enslaved in the United States, on Saturday, June 19. Coming Together: A Juneteenth Celebration will be a #concertforkids event at 11:00am celebrating Black culture through music, dance, and poetry, demonstrating the importance of human connections in resilience and transformation. Later on at 7:00pm, join Lincoln Center for I Dream a Dream That Dreams Back at Me: A Juneteenth Celebration an experiential event unfolding in multiple distinct parts across the Lincoln Center campus. The evening begins at Hearst Plaza with a musical introduction, continues with a musical recitation of a deconstructed National Anthem, and more. Free tickets will be available through the TodayTix lottery as Saturday, June 19 nears.
There are a number of different events planned on Lincoln Center’s campus this June, so be sure to visit the Restart Stages series page to browse the calendar and reserve your free tickets ahead of time.
