Substantial Work Completed on 9th Avenue

The New York City Department of Design and Construction (NYC DDC) has substantially completed infrastructure upgrades to public and private underground utilities along 9th Avenue between West 51st Street and West 60th Street in relation to making connections to the Third Water Tunnel.

Some of these improvements include the installation of 36-inch Trunk Water Mains, which will improve the reliability of the area’s water supply system, and 12-inch and 20-inch Distribution Water Mains. The work also included the replacement or rehabilitation of over 500 feet of sewer lines and ten catch basins, as well as the replacement and increase in the size of Gas Mains. Con Edison also upgraded its electrical distribution system. Community Board 4 and the NYC DOT modified the roadway design for 9th Avenue in Hell's Kitchen to increase safety for bicyclists, pedestrians, and motorists. There is still limited punch list work to be completed, so work will continue over the next several months.
