Water Main Break 1.13.20

By now you all know that the streets around Lincoln Square from 61st Street to 64th Street were flooded this morning. The west side of Broadway from 61st Street to 63rd Street is currently closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Emergency personnel from OEM, DEP, NYPD, FDNY, the MTA, and Con Edison are on site.  We have been in touch with Commissioner Bishop and his team at the NYC Department of Small Business Services and their emergency response team is on the way. Our quick assessment is that approximately 15 - 20 businesses and locations, including our offices at 1881 Broadway, are impacted. Special thanks to Howard Milstein and Milstein Properties for providing a location for the emergency response team to meet.

1, 2, 3 Train service have been rerouted with shuttle service provided between W. 34th Street and W. 137th Street. In addition, M7, M10, M104, M5 Bus Service are detoured.

Updates as of 1:30pm:

The Lincoln Square BID team walked the district with SBS's Emergency Response Unit and visited all of the businesses in the impacted area. Fortunately only a few businesses have been impacted. There is a fair amount of basement flooding in the buildings west of Broadway between 61st & 63rd Streets.

62nd Street between Broadway and Columbus Avenue is closed.  South bound traffic on Broadway between 65th Street and 60th Street is also closed.

Updates as of 4:00pm:

Hats off to all the City agencies led by OEM who have been working since 5:00am to bring things back to normal.  They are doing an incredible job in dewatering the many flooded spaces and are in the process of excavating in front of our building to address the 36” water main in order to ultimately repair it.  It is our understanding that work will continue into the evening.

62nd Street between Broadway and Columbus Avenue remains closed.  South bound traffic on Broadway between 65th Street and 60th Street also remains closed.
