Dear Friends:

As the Lincoln Square neighborhood continues to recover from Monday morning's water main break that resulted in substantial impacts to our local businesses, institutions, property owners, and residents, we are very thankful for the incredible, prompt and closely coordinated response overseen by the NYC Office of Emergency Management, across multiple City agencies, including the NYC Departments of Environmental Protection, Small Business Services, Transportation, the MTA, Con Edison, Parks, FDNY, and the NYPD who immediately sprang into action shortly after the break occurred.

While the broken water mains have been replaced, some streets in the neighborhood remain closed and access to several buildings and businesses remains restricted at this time. Although the Lincoln Square BID office is inaccessible due to water damage, our staff is working out of temporary space generously provided by Ogden CAP Properties. Now that we're up and running, we thought we should provide an update on the water main break:

  • Southbound Broadway remains closed between 65th Street and 61st Street while repairs on the ground are proceeding. The NYC Department of Environmental Protection's emergency contractor has removed the sheeting and broken sections of damaged asphalt caused by the break. Back filling of the street excavation is ongoing and this section of Broadway will be open as soon as possible.

  • 62nd Street between Broadway and Columbus Avenue is closed.

  • There are many businesses that are unable to operate for a variety of reasons; however, we are pleased that several businesses that were in the immediate impact area are open, including The Empire Hotel, P.J. Clarke's, Starbucks, Duane Reade, Bloch and Rosa Mexicano.

  • The following remain closed: TD Bank, TD Ameritrade, New York Sports Club, the David Rubenstein Atrium, AAA, the NYIT Auditorium, and Melissa's Gourmet Deli. We hope they will open soon, so check back with us for updates.
The Lincoln Square BID is always available as a resource to anyone impacted, and we will continue to work with our City partners and the community to insure all necessary fixes and repairs are made in a safe and timely manner, and that business can get back to normal!
