Water Main Break Update 2.20.20 & Community Survey

Dear Lincoln Square BID Members & Friends:

As you all know, on January 13, 2020 - over six weeks ago - there was a major water main break on Broadway directly in front of 1881 Broadway, which also happens to be the location of the BID's office. Unfortunately, the damage caused by the water main break has impacted several properties and businesses in the immediate area of 62nd Street and Broadway. Several residential buildings continue to operate off of temporary boilers while TD Ameritrade, New York Sports Club, NYIT's Auditorium on Broadway, and the AAA office are all closed and will most likely not reopen for several months. Though we are not able to get into our office at 1881 Broadway, which was not damaged at all, we are fortunate that we have been able to work out of temporary space provided by Ogden CAP Properties and are able to continue to provide services to Lincoln Square. Impacted businesses and properties might find this link to the Comptroller's office helpful: https://comptroller.nyc.gov/services/for-the-public/claims/file-a-claim/. Note: it is our understanding that you have 90 days within which to file a claim.

Emergency contractors from DEP and Con Edison have been working around the clock. The good news is that DEP has completed all street and sidewalk temporary restorations, so the sidewalk and streets around 62nd Street and Broadway are open to pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Con Edison's steam work at the entire intersection of 62nd Street and Broadway is expected to continue through this month, including restoration. We expect that work will be impacting the area for quite some time and there may be some intermittent street closures. When there is a need we will continue to assign our Public Safety Officers to critical locations to provide information and directions to the public.

We will also continue to share neighborhood updates as work progresses. In the meantime and while things are getting back to normal, we would like to hear from you. Please click here to take our annual community survey and tell us what you think about our organization and the services that we provide. In light of the water main break, we have added a few questions to the survey to assess what you thought of our proactive approach.  As a show of appreciation, we will be randomly selecting a handful of respondents to receive a gift card to one of Lincoln  Square's wonderful neighborhood bakeries.
